Shirley Harding, DO, FACOS is an Associate Professor in the Department of Osteopathic Surgical Specialties at Michigan State University. She received her medical degree from Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine. She is the first woman completing a Urological Surgery Residency training program in the Osteopathic Profession. She obtained General Surgery Residency training at Botsford Hospital (now Corewell Health), followed by Urological Residency training at 3 core hospitals in Detroit region with Dr. Ronald Wadle, D.O. as Program Director. Dr. Harding is Associate Professor and Faculty Excellence Advocate (FEA) for the College of Osteopathic Medicine (MSUCOM) at Michigan State University. The FEA position’s goal is to increase Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) within MSUCOM and provide guidance & mentoring during faculty searches. Dr. Harding specializes in diseases of the urinary tract, including male and female reproductive systems. This includes kidneys, bladder, urethra, penis, prostate and external genitalia. She has provided medical and surgical care for patients with a wide variety of diagnoses, taught and mentored many MSUCOM medical students, residents, and others. She performs clinically based research focused on quality improvement at MSUCOM.
