Introduction/Purpose: This is a case report on delayed repair of a large flank hernia in an adult patient sustained from blunt abdominal wall trauma secondary to car accident. Traumatic Abdominal wall hernias are more commonly seen in children. Purpose of this case is to describe method of repair of flank hernia
Methods or Case Description: Middle aged female presents several years after car accident presented for elective repair of large flank hernia. Patient did not have obstructive symptoms or pain.
Outcomes: The hernia was explored and found to have no anchoring fascia available, therefore a large mesh was placed closing the defect by suturing on to the iliac spine
Conclusion: Blunt traumatic abdominal wall hernias over time will have atrophied fascia and in delayed repairs, further studies on mesh placement and recurrence rate may be beneficial to guide management of blunt trauma related hernias
